King County Deputies Continue Search for Suspect in Delivery Driver’s Fatal Shooting

Late last month, tragedy struck as 50-year-old delivery driver Sergay Kubay was shot and killed at Fairwood Pond Apartments in Renton, Washington. The King County Sheriff’s Office reported that Kubay was delivering packages when he was fatally shot after an altercation, leading authorities to believe that he was targeted due to his occupation.

Kubay’s untimely death has left his family devastated, as they mourn the loss of their beloved brother, husband, and father. His brother, Nikolay Kubay, revealed the heartbreaking impact of the loss on their large, tight-knit family, as they grapple with the unforeseen tragedy and its associated costs. Kubay leaves behind a wife and two children, aged 5 and 10, who are left to cope with the immense loss of their provider and protector.

In response to this devastating incident, Nikolay Kubay has called for the person responsible for his brother’s death to be brought to justice. In the meantime, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Kubay’s grieving family as they navigate this difficult time.

Sergay Kubay’s tragic death is not an isolated incident, as he joins the growing list of delivery, rideshare, and cab drivers who have been killed while on the job this year. State lawmakers are taking note and exploring potential measures to provide support to the families of these victims, including discussing a proposed bill to expand death benefits for rideshare drivers.

As the investigation into Kubay’s death continues, the King County Deputies have yet to release any information about a suspect. In the meantime, the community is coming together to support the Kubay family and remember Sergay’s “big, warm heart” in the face of such a senseless tragedy.

Historically, the targeting of delivery drivers and other gig economy workers has been an ongoing concern, with incidents of violence prompting lawmakers to address the safety and security of these essential workers. With the heartbreaking loss of Sergay Kubay, the need for measures to protect and support delivery workers has become all the more urgent.

As the search for answers continues, the community is rallying around the Kubay family, offering support and remembrance for a man who tragically lost his life while simply trying to provide for his loved ones.
