Recruitment in the Travel and Hospitality Sector Expected to Surge in 2024
As the world slowly emerges from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the travel and hospitality sector is projected to see a significant uptick in hiring in 2024. According to TeamLease Services, a leading staffing and human resources firm, hiring in this sector is expected to increase by 15-20% compared to 2023.
The surge in recruitment is particularly evident in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024, with an expected uptick of 68% compared to the preceding quarter. Major players in the hospitality industry, such as Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), Lemon Tree Hotels, Accor, Marriott International, and Wyndham, have announced plans for significant expansions, with a collective pipeline of dozens of new hotels set to open in the coming years.
A report by hospitality consultancy firm Hotelivate revealed that an impressive 70,000 new rooms were signed and planned as of March 2023, representing a 33% increase in supply over the next 4-5 years. This significant growth in infrastructure is expected to fuel further demand for skilled professionals in the industry.
The impact of this growth is already being felt in the job market, with a reported 44% increase in job listings in the travel and hospitality sector compared to 2022. Job roles in IT, engineering, office services, and customer service are anticipated to see significant demand, while tech skills in AI, AR/VR, and online platforms are increasingly sought after.
Looking ahead, the outlook for the travel and hospitality sector remains optimistic, with sustainability and responsible tourism creating new job avenues and government initiatives driving further job creation. As the industry continues to rebound, opportunities for career growth and development in this sector are expected to abound in 2024 and beyond.
Historically, the travel and hospitality sector has faced numerous challenges, from economic downturns to global health crises. However, it has always exhibited resilience and adaptability, bouncing back stronger each time. As we look forward to 2024, the industry is poised for a period of significant growth and opportunity.
