Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), the managing and operating contractor at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site, recently organized a Project Controls Recruitment Fair at the North Augusta Community Center. The event was aimed at meeting the staff requirements for crucial projects and providing job opportunities to the local community.
Shannan Lucero, the SRNS Director of Project Controls, expressed excitement at the success of the fair. “After analyzing numerous resumes and connecting with 160 career-seekers, 17 qualified candidates received contingent, on-the-spot job offers by the end of the day. It is so important for us to reach the best quality candidates to support our missions and projects. This in-person opportunity was incredibly beneficial to the growth and progression of Project Controls,” he said.
The fair focused on open positions ranging from entry to senior level, offering opportunities in areas such as earned value management systems, planning, scheduling, estimating, and cost-control. Seventeen on-the-spot job offers were made, and additional applicants are still being reviewed for other positions.
Lucero revealed the diverse nature of the applicants, indicating that applicants ranged from those looking to make a career change to seasoned professionals seeking a career with SRNS. Notably, two former SRNS Project Controls interns, Daniel Gibson and James Davis, attended the fair to explore full-time opportunities. Their positive experiences as interns and the stability and work-life balance offered by SRNS were factors that drew them to the career fair.
The role of Project Controls at the Savannah River Site, including its contribution to the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF) project, was highlighted at the fair. The site has been tasked with repurposing an F Area facility as part of the SRPPF project, which is integral to meeting nuclear stockpile requirements.
The success of the fair and the enthusiastic response from potential candidates reflect SRNS’s commitment to not only fulfilling its staffing needs but also to involving the local community in its projects and contributing to the professional growth of individuals in the industry. This event was a strong step toward furthering the goals of Project Controls and the broader mission of the Savannah River Site.
Historically, the Savannah River Site has played a crucial role in national security and nuclear deterrence efforts. It was originally established in the early 1950s for the production of materials needed in the fabrication of nuclear weapons. Over time, it has evolved to meet the changing needs of the Department of Energy, and the recent Project Controls Recruitment Fair is evidence of its ongoing commitment to excellence in staffing and community engagement.
The enthusiasm shown by candidates and SRNS’s dedication to recruiting top-tier talent not only ensures the success of ongoing projects but also reflects positively on the organization’s commitment to professional development and community involvement. This promises continued success for the Savannah River Site and the crucial projects it manages.
