Life for Keyshaundra, a student in Orlando, took a positive turn after she participated in a job skills training class in 2022 at United Against Poverty Orlando, or UP Orlando. This nonprofit organization, supported by Spectrum Community Center Assist (SCCA), is dedicated to helping individuals in poverty achieve economic self-sufficiency through various programs, including job training.
Keyshaundra, who had experienced homelessness in the past, enrolled in UP Orlando’s Success Training Employment Program (STEP) and found a new direction. Thanks to the skills she gained from the program, she landed a job as a leasing agent at an apartment complex and was able to secure her own apartment. Her success serves as a testament to the impact that SCCA is making through its support of job skills training programs offered by partner nonprofits.
In partnership with SCCA, UP Orlando has received $150,000 in grants since 2021 to bolster its programs, including STEP. Spectrum has also donated 50 laptops and provided gigabit internet service, as well as facilitated facility improvements carried out by over 40 Spectrum employees during a revitalization event.
Rahman Khan, Group Vice President of Community Impact for Charter, commended UP Orlando for providing a supportive environment where individuals can enhance their job skills and secure better employment opportunities. Through this collaboration, UP Orlando is able to offer essential training and resources to benefit the greater Orlando community.
