Adrian is buzzing with excitement as event organizers gear up for the third annual Career Connections Job Fair. With expectations of 40 employers and over 250 regional students and job seekers in attendance, this year’s event promises to be a success.
Scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Christian Family Center in Adrian, the Career Connections Job Fair will provide ample time for employers to set up before and tear down after the event. Align Lenawee, the coordinating agency behind the job fair, revealed in a news release.
The Career Connections initiative, which took root in 2022 with a focus on high school students disinterested in traditional career education, has since evolved to include a diverse array of job seekers. From college students to community members, individuals seeking full-time, part-time, internship, and apprenticeship positions will find a wealth of opportunities at the fair.
In 2023, the Job Fair drew in 278 local adults, college students, and high school upperclassmen, according to Align Lenawee, the workforce development arm of Lenawee Now. Kelly McNicol, career education navigator for the Align Center for Workforce Development, expressed anticipation for the 40 regional employers expected to participate in this year’s event.
Employers from a variety of industries, including medical, manufacturing, finance, corrections, automotive, and education, will be present at the fair. They will be looking to fill professional roles, entry-level positions, apprenticeships, and internships.
Feedback from past attendees, such as Ben Negron from Meijer and Derek Bycraft from YMCA Storer Camps, highlighted the valuable connections made and the positive environment fostered at the fair. The event not only serves as a networking opportunity but also provides resources for job seekers to enhance their skills.
Align Lenawee predicts this year’s fair to draw the largest turnout yet, with increased engagement from county’s adult job seekers and regional colleges. While registration is not required for job seekers, attendees are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes to enter prize drawings throughout the day.
In addition to job opportunities, the fair will offer seminars on topics such as professionalism in the workplace, leadership, and finding your passion. Sheila Blair, executive director of the Align Center for Workforce Development, emphasized the importance of connecting job seekers with employers to address workforce needs within the community.
