Akron Borough Council Transitions Managers, Implements Succession Plan
In a recent Akron Borough Council meeting held on March 25, council member Paul Swangren announced that the borough’s manager and assistant manager have successfully switched positions and are adapting well to their new roles.
Effective March 11, Sue Davidson, who has been with Akron Borough for approximately 30 years, transitioned to the role of assistant borough manager, while Sean Molchany, with 28 years of experience as a manager in Manheim Township, assumed the responsibilities of borough manager. This job swap was part of a well-thought-out succession plan that was put into motion about four years ago in anticipation of Davidson’s upcoming retirement at the end of this year.
According to Swangren, the succession plan included hiring an assistant borough manager and a finance person prior to the recent managerial transition. These changes will bring the borough’s administrative staff back to three paid employees, as it was before the succession plan was implemented.
Molchany, a longtime Akron resident with previous experience on the borough’s planning commission, expressed confidence in the seamless transition with Davidson, noting their complementary strengths and familiarity with each other’s capabilities. Looking ahead, Davidson mentioned that her duties will conclude with her retirement, unless her expertise is needed for consulting purposes.
In other news, Council member Bonnie Young shared plans for a groundbreaking ceremony for a new pavilion in Colonial Park, scheduled for April 27 at 10 a.m. The project, supported by a contribution from Rosenberger North America, aims to enhance the park’s amenities and cater to the community’s needs.
As Akron Borough Council moves forward, the next meeting is set for April 8 at 6:30 p.m. Stay tuned for further updates and developments in the borough’s management and community initiatives.
