UP police constable recruitment: Yogi Adityanath Government announces 3-year age relaxation

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a significant change in the age eligibility criteria for candidates applying for police constable jobs in the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued an order on Tuesday, granting a three-year age relaxation for candidates applying for the recruitment of 60,244 police constables.

In a tweet, Chief Minister Adityanath emphasized his government’s commitment to the welfare of the state’s youth, stating, “Your government is fully committed to the interests of the youth and their bright future.” This decision comes in response to mounting demands from candidates and political leaders alike, who have cited the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years as a factor necessitating the age relaxation.

According to the latest recruitment notification published on December 23, the minimum age for candidates was 18 years, while the maximum age was 22 years for the 60,244 constable vacancies. This new age relaxation will provide much-needed relief to aspiring candidates.

This move has been met with approval from various political leaders, with Jewar (Gautam Buddh Nagar) MLA Dhirendra Singh and Anupshahar (Bulandshahr) MLA Sanjay Sharma advocating for the age relaxation during a meeting with the Chief Minister. Even opposition parties, including Rashtriya Lok Dal, have voiced their support for this change.

Out of the 60,244 vacancies in the police service, 24,102 are unreserved, 6,024 are designated for economically weaker sections, 16,262 for Other Backward Classes, 12,650 for Scheduled Castes, and 1,204 for Scheduled Tribes. Additionally, 20 percent of the total posts have been reserved for women.

The application process is set to commence on December 27 and will run until January 16, providing ample time for interested candidates to apply for the revised age eligibility criteria.

This decision marks a significant development in the state’s police recruitment process, signaling the government’s responsiveness to the needs of aspiring candidates. It also reflects the proactive measures being taken to address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. With this age relaxation, a wider pool of candidates will have the opportunity to pursue a career in law enforcement, contributing to the overall strength and diversity of the police force in Uttar Pradesh.
